I was looking at the starter set which comes with a pen and book. What do you all think? Do these really work that well? I'm concerned that my child wouldn't want to focus on it, and would get bored quickly.

We haven't seen one yet - for some reason VTech has stopped sending us stuff to review. But it looks like a cheap knockoff of the Tag Reading System, which we really love. I'd go with LeapFrog in this case.

We bought the tag reading system for our six year old recently. Reading is not his most favorite thing to do, (he prefers number and math) however, he seemed a little bit more interested in this system. The fact that you can touch on a word with the reader for help gives him independance and cuts down on frustration. Sometimes it sits and collects dust, as he doesn't pick it up and play with it on his own. Most of the time I need to assign tag reading time, and he will do it!
